Hello,

My name is Lauren and I am the owner and operator of Age in Place Cincy. I live here in Cincinnati and have been an occupational therapist (OT) for 11 years. Along with getting AIP Cincy up and running, I currently work at a local hospital helping individuals following illness, injury, or surgery regain their strength, independence, and ability to return home.

My patients' illnesses and injuries can often be attributed to their home environments - falls while going down the steps, poor hygiene due to difficulty bathing, or inadequate nutrition due to difficulty making meals. As these patients' ability to take care of themselves declines, so does their overall health and quality of life. Unfortunately, people are sometimes unable to discharge home from the hospital due to their inaccessible home environment. More often than not, they cannot go up the steps to access their bedroom, bathroom, or even the home itself. For many, along with increased support, some simple and relatively inexpensive changes to their homes and daily activities could drastically improve their safety and functional independence.

Throughout my time in healthcare, I've noticed a common theme: people just want to go home and stay home. Through my experience, I've developed an interest in helping people do just that.

As an OT, I already possess the knowledge and skills it takes to help someone increase their functional independence at home. In order to build my expertise, I became a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). This certification course provided me with a deeper understanding of aging in place, universal design, and home modification and renovation. My educational and professional background gives me the expertise and creativity needed to help you determine what needs to be done to make your home work better for you.
